Australian Lipid Society
About the Society
The Australian Lipid Society is an incorporated, not-for-profit association advancing the science of lipid biology and biochemistry across Australia. The Society was formally launched as an incorporated association in Western Australia in February 2026, building on a long-standing community of researchers, students, and clinicians working in lipid science.
Our Objectives
The Society exists to advance the science of lipid biology and biochemistry, particularly within the Australian region. We do this by:
- Organising the Australian Lipid Meeting (ALM) - our flagship biennial conference bringing together the Australian lipid science community.
- Supporting education in lipid biology, biochemistry, and analytical methods.
- Advocating for lipid science within the broader research community.
- Collaborating with related national and international organisations to strengthen the field.
Next Meeting

The Society’s next conference is the Australian Lipid Meeting 7 (ALM7) held jointly with the 5th International Lipidomics Society (iLS) Conference, taking place 18–21 October 2026 at the Novotel Perth Langley in Perth, Western Australia.
This joint event brings together researchers, clinicians, and industry leaders from around the world to share discoveries, foster collaboration, and shape the future of lipid science.

Who We Are
The Society is open to anyone aged 16 or over who is based in or connected to Australia and who supports the objects of the Society. Membership is free - there are no joining or annual fees. Members receive notification of upcoming meetings, calls for nominations, and Society announcements, and are eligible to vote at general meetings and stand for election to the management committee.
How the Society Works
The Society is governed by a management committee comprising a President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer, supported by up to two auxiliary members. Committee members are elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting, held in conjunction with each Australian Lipid Meeting on a two-year cycle.
The Society operates strictly as a not-for-profit. All income is applied solely toward the promotion of the Society’s objects, and no part of the Society’s property or income may be distributed to members.
